ABOUT 1ST WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES

Congratulations on your 1st wedding anniversary. In many countries (including the UK and US) the 1st wedding anniversary is traditionally known as the Paper Anniversary. So, how did paper become the traditional first year anniversary gift? There’s a lot of symbolism at work here.

Essentially, the paper serves as a reminder that you’re writing the story of your lives together, page by page. Your first anniversary marks the completion of the first “chapter” in your marriage. Additionally, paper is delicate and fragile, and this serves as a reminder that your new marriage, while still strong, will require a lot of work to keep it that way. Things are still new because –in a sense– the ink hasn’t completely dried yet. Also, the origin of paper is another beautiful symbol of your new marriage. Paper is made from trees, and we all know trees don’t grow overnight! Instead, they start as little seeds. And like the tree, your love grows a little more and a little stronger every day, and needs proper care in order to thrive.

HOW TO CELEBRATE A 1ST ANNIVERSARY

With the theme “Paper”, there are many ideas for you to celebrate your 1st wedding anniversary.

Handwritten love letter

Writing emails has become commonplace these days, so a self-written letter to your partner on an anniversary will make her extremely happy.

A holiday together

You can gift yourself and your spouse a pair of tourist tickets to spend a romantic vacation together, in an exotic setting, with a range of excursions and activities that match your shared interests and interests. Closer to home, a night at the theater, followed by a candlelit dinner near a river or lake, and a hearty wine dinner is also a good idea. And don’t forget to save photos of the two of you.

Paper roses

Women always love roses – the flower symbolizing love. With a paper theme, you can give her a rose made of paper. Often when we think of paper rose, we think of things made simple in craft classes. However, at Camellia Bees, we have created lifelike paper flowers that will melt the hearts of those who look at them. And these art paper flowers can be kept for many years.

1ST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CARDS

Give your spouse unique cards. With the paper theme of the first anniversary, you have a lot of options such as love cards, 3D pop-up cards, quilling cards or anniversary cards dedicated to the 1st wedding anniversary. Here are some of our card templates, which you can use for this anniversary.

Recognition of wedding anniversaries

The historic origins of wedding anniversaries date back to the Holy Roman Empire, when husbands crowned their wives with a silver wreath on their twenty-fifth anniversary, and a gold wreath on the fiftieth. Later, principally in the twentieth century, commercialism led to the addition of more anniversaries being represented by a named gift. In the Commonwealth realms, one can receive a message from the monarch for 60th, 65th, and 70th wedding anniversaries, and any wedding anniversary after that. (Wikipedia)

In the 1920s, Emily Post, an American author, published a book titled “Etiquette”. The book made a list of commemorative topics and what gifts to give for the anniversary. However, only a handful of Anniversary Years were included in the book, the first, the fifth, then the fifth every year until the 25th wedding anniversary.

In 1937, the National Association of Retail Jewelers of the United States has added additional years to the list, including all years up to 14 years of marriage and every 5th year up to 50 years of marriage. These are known as traditional themes associated with each year. More recently, a contemporary list was created, and today all anniversary years 1 to 30 are associated with a theme or document, and then every five years thereafter up to 75 years of marriage.

Each of the themes has been chosen for a special reason and represents the various stages that you pass through in your marriage.. Let’s share the actual list of wedding anniversary themes by year. This is the list that most people consider to be traditional, and we’ve decided to compile a list that encompasses both UK and US traditions.
